CANCELED

April Off Grid Rally
Hidden Springs State Forest
Strausburg, IL 62465
618-644-3091
April 15-17, 2016

Hidden Springs State Forest is a beautiful little campground that is all but forgotten. Most campers reserve sites at the two State Parks and three Army Corps Campgrounds on Lake Shelbyville leaving Hidden Springs as a quiet, unspoiled gem.

Join us for the Illinois Boondock Rally on April 15th. Hidden Springs has no hookups, no electricity, and no shower house, however water and a dump station are available on site.

Don’t be scared off because there are no hookups. Airstreams are very well equipped for boondocking. The campground is well shaded and air conditioning should not be necessary in April. Bring your percolator for coffee and get ready to have a good time.

Reservations are accepted, but none are needed. There are 28 sites available and they don’t even fill up on a holiday weekend. And you can’t beat the cost… $8.

Several current and past members of the Southern Illinois Unit spent the weekend attending the Airforums Bennitt Boondock Rally north of Columbia, Missouri.  Although the forecast was for lots of rain, the weather cooperated and another great rally went down in history.

Back to the Basics 2015

April 20, 2015 | News

The fifth annual AirForums “Back to the Basics” Rally at Hidden Springs State Forest was featured as the Southern Illinois Unit’s April rally.  We had six units from Illinois, Iowa and Florida.

The rally was very laid back with no electricity, no schedule and no business meeting.  The only guarantee was that there would be a campfire burning all weekend.

The weather was perfect for boondocking and nobody ran out of battery power.  Lots of great food was prepared over the fire and Saturday’s potluck had a wide selection of gourmet dishes.

Take a look at the photo gallery below.  Hopefully we can fill out the entire loop next year with twelve units.
