Banks of the Wabash Caravan 

Oct. 4-13, 2013

Please join us for the 2013 CIU “come and go” caravan as we visit towns along the banks of the Wabash River from Lafayette to Vincennes. You can join and leave the caravan as your schedule permits. Each three day stop will have a separate “rally fee” which will be collected on the last day when all costs are known.

Stop 1 – West Lafayette Friday Oct. 4 – Sunday Oct. 6

The highlight of the first stop is a visit to Fort Ouiatenen in Lafayette and the Feast of the Hunter’s Moon – a re-creation of the annual fall gathering of the French and Native Americans at this fur trading outpost in the mid-1700’s.  There will also be a tour of Samara, a Frank Lloyd designed home in West Lafayette still lived in by the original owner.

Stop 2 – Parke County Monday Oct. 7 – Wednesday Oct. 9

We’ll visit the covered bridges in Parke County before the Covered Bridge festival officially opens, missing the crowds and traffic but still getting to see the bridges, tour two mills, and view beautiful fall scenery.  Along the way, we will also tour the Ernie Pyle World War II Museum in Dana and have a wagon tour of the Wabash & Erie Canal sites in Montezuma.

Stop 3 – Vincennes Thursday Oct. 10 – Sunday Oct. 13

Lots of historical sites to visit!  Vincennes is the first city in Indiana (1732) and served as the capital of the Indiana Territory (1800-1813).  We will take tours of the George Rogers Clark Memorial, the Old Cathedral and library, the new Red Skelton Museum, the French House, Grouseland (William Henry Harrison’s mansion), and the Vincennes State Historic Sites.
