Member Notes for July

July 1, 2008 | News

Dan and Rose Nugteren still live in O’Fallon.  However he got out of the Air Force in the spring, and is now a First Officer for United Airlines. He had been flying out of Denver up until the time we saw him in Bozeman. That assignment was soon to change to Washington D. C. as his home base.  He said they were going to continue to live in O’Fallon for the time being.   They have traded their trailer for an Airstream motor coach, and travel much of the time he is home.

Corresponding Secretary Notes

July 1, 2008 | Corresponding Secretary, News

Five Southern Illinois units attended the International Rally in Bozeman, MT:  Doerr, Hangsleben, Meier, T. Schwartz, and G. White.  Also attending were associate members Jones, Luther and Schrader.  Erwins were on their way but returned home due to illness in their family. Dan Nugteren was there one morning between his United Airline flights.  What a surprise and pleasure!

Southern Illinois Unit had a cookie-and-ice-cream get together one evening.  Bob and Lee Moyers, Region 5 President and First Lady, also joined us.  The sugar cookies were shaped like  Airstream trailers.  Some were iced with silver-colored icing, but also some were pink, green, coral, and yellow. At that time, those present decided not to participate in the July 4th parade as there were so few of us.

The Baylesses, Schaettes, and G. Whites each have an Airstream trailer for sale.  If you or someone you know is interested in a trailer, you could contact one of these members to learn details about their trailers. Medical news that we know about:

  • Howard Groner entered the Anna Hospital on Saturday, July 12.
  • Curtis Wheat is undergoing radiation treatments which will last into the fall.  He and Jane will be unable to go on the Where the River Road Begins Caravan.
  • Elmer Koen has begun another round of chemotherapy treatments.
  • Stella Thompson had knee surgery and had gotten into rehabilitation.  However, she suffered a set back when she developed a blood clot in her lungs.
