Richard was born May 28, 1934, in Louisville, the son of Gregory and Lena (Karlee) Thompson. He married Stella M. Boggs and they have been married for 54 years. Richard had been retired since 1998 and he and Stella loved to travel. They have been to all four corners of the United States and Canada. Dick loved to hunt and fish and many times Stella would go with him. They just enjoyed spending time with each other and with their granddaughter, Hallie. Dick and Hallie went fishing many times and he taught her how to be a master caster by the age of 6. Dick also enjoyed selling cars. His family always thought of him as a “wheeler-dealer.” He was the Master salesman for Ford Motor Company for 20 years and in his last employment, he was the automotive shop supervisor for the State of Illinois.
Dick was on the Unit 40 School Board for nine years, a precinct committeeman for several years, past president of the WBCCI Airstream Caravan Club and an active member of Cornerstone Christian Church. Dick was delighted in his family and very dedicated to his church and his God.
Survivors include his wife, Stella; son-in-law Craig Thoele and granddaughter Hallie Thoele of Effingham; sister, Mary Ann Ellis of Chesterfield, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Deanne Thoele.
