Your President’s Ramblings for July

July 1, 2008 | President's Corner

This newsletter edition of MORE is written as we are on the first part of the Maple Leaf Caravan. We arrived in Magrath, Alberta on July 6th, together with the Luthers and the Meiers, after visiting the Great Falls of the Missouri on the 5th. There is still much snow melt run off and the Great Falls were living up to its name!

Our Unit made a significant contribution to the Cents for Kids program this year. Our contribution was $784.00 of the total contribution of $8380.79. The Unit also contributed 10 pounds of aluminum tabs, 26 blankets, 20 hats, and 29 stuffed animals. A great big THANK YOU to all Unit members who contributed time, effort, and money.

If you have not registered for the Region Rally, now is the time to do it. The earlier you register, the easier will be the planning for the rally by President Moyers.

Bill Schrader and I have finalized plans for the Computer Rally which is held just prior to the Region Rally. We decided that two sandwich lunches for participants and spouses WILL BE included in the Computer Rally fee in addition to the two breakfasts. Sessions will be held on Introduction of Computer, WORD, EXCEL, GPS, Where Did That File Go?, Unit Newsletters, Using Mail Merge, EBAY- buying and selling. Also, Monday evening there will be a session for sharing Internet Sites we like. There will be thirty minutes between sessions this year to allow more time for questions/answers and to let things progress at a more leisurely pace.

Your President’s Ramblings

March 21, 2008 | President's Corner

It is difficult to realize that winter is nearly over.  Those of you that have been at home this winter have endured a lot of cold, ice, and snow.  Those of us who have been enjoying the warmer weather are glad we went south.  However, I know that all of us are looking forward to spring and the beginning of our Unit Rally season.  The third page of this newsletter contains the April Rally schedule, and a brief description of the May rally is following.

The work of the WBCCI 2020 committee is currently being done by e-mail and the notes having been flying back and forth.  The committee is sending a survey to Unit Presidents seeking information about the Unit activities, and how effective the Region and National levels are in helping the Unit operate, etc.  I will be soliciting your input to the questions during the April business meeting.

Carol and I plan to spend the last weekend in March at our daughter’s house in Mesquite, TX.  We will be back in Carbondale on April 2 or 3.

Finally, I now see February was misspelled and date of the February Luncheon was wrong in last month’s newsletter.  Carol and I DO try to proof read the newsletter, but certainly not well enough.  I may have to give a prize to the person who finds the most typos the rest of this year.  We will try harder to have none that we miss.

Member Notes:

Betty Hutchens had a serious round of the flu.  She is feeling better.

Frankie Howell has a case of shingles and is feeling pretty miserable with it.

Linda Zoeller’s sister Sherry Kim died on March 14.  Her memorial service will be held later this spring.

Norma and Elmer Koen are making a later winter trip to Texas to visit relatives and us here at Fun N Sun.  Carol and I look forward to visiting with them for a few days.
