President’s Comments

May 28, 2009 | News, Newsletter, President's Corner

These comments are being written as our May rally draws to a close. The newsletter editor wants to go to print early and told me to “get ‘er done!”.  It has been a good rally but a bit on the small side.  Lay it to weather, health issues, and other commitments like graduations.  Folks, between the “r” and “y” of the word “rally” is the word “all”.  To make our organization a success we need you all!  And when you aren’t at a rally we sure do miss y’all!

The June rally will be here before you know it. There are two amendments and a slate of officers to decide on.  Your vote will direct our Delegate how to vote at the Delegates meeting at International.  This is covered elsewhere in this newsletter.  We will also have to decide the July “free rally site.  Although the July rally is usually a get-together for those not attending International, I think a lot us attending International will also be home in time for the rally.  So come in June and cast your vote.  We want to see you all there.

Peace and God Bless
Art and Doris Meier, President and First Lady

What a great rally in Waterloo!  The committee of Bud and Sheila Himes, Norma Koen, and Romaine Broughton did a great job. The rally theme was high school gradation.  Friday evening featured trivia from our high school days in 1952 and 1962.  Linda Hangsleben won the 1952 trivia.  Carol White won the 1962 trivia.

Saturday evening featured a picture identification contest of baby and/or high school graduation pictures.  Everyone was given the opportunity to identify the person in the picture. Linda H. won, see picture on page 3.  There was another trivia quiz.  Louise Humble and Carol White tied for the most correct answers.

Those attending the April rally were Tom and Bettie Bolander, Romaine Broughton, Max and Sarah Doerr, Brian, Erin, Paige, and Jamie Gogolek, Walter and Linda Hangsleben and Linda’s sister, Judy, Bud and Sheila Himes, Jerry and Louise Humble, Conrad Jenkins, Norma Koen, Art and Doris Meier, Karl and Erika Schaette, Curt and Jane Wheat, Dennis and Edna White, Gordon and Carol White,Dick and Stella Thompson and Dennis and Edna White drove in for the business meeting.  Dwight and Marilyn Burrus drove in Saturday afternoon

Cards were sent to Carol Treadwell and Leroy Pittman. Our prayers are with them as they are recovering.

Items for the International service projects, aluminum tabs, pennies, and children’s caps, are being collected. Sarah D. brought many handmade caps and Jerry H. brought a box full of tabs.  At the June rally we will make some fleece blankets to take to International.  Thank you to all who have added to the projects.
