Your President’s Ramblings for July

July 1, 2008 | President's Corner

This newsletter edition of MORE is written as we are on the first part of the Maple Leaf Caravan. We arrived in Magrath, Alberta on July 6th, together with the Luthers and the Meiers, after visiting the Great Falls of the Missouri on the 5th. There is still much snow melt run off and the Great Falls were living up to its name!

Our Unit made a significant contribution to the Cents for Kids program this year. Our contribution was $784.00 of the total contribution of $8380.79. The Unit also contributed 10 pounds of aluminum tabs, 26 blankets, 20 hats, and 29 stuffed animals. A great big THANK YOU to all Unit members who contributed time, effort, and money.

If you have not registered for the Region Rally, now is the time to do it. The earlier you register, the easier will be the planning for the rally by President Moyers.

Bill Schrader and I have finalized plans for the Computer Rally which is held just prior to the Region Rally. We decided that two sandwich lunches for participants and spouses WILL BE included in the Computer Rally fee in addition to the two breakfasts. Sessions will be held on Introduction of Computer, WORD, EXCEL, GPS, Where Did That File Go?, Unit Newsletters, Using Mail Merge, EBAY- buying and selling. Also, Monday evening there will be a session for sharing Internet Sites we like. There will be thirty minutes between sessions this year to allow more time for questions/answers and to let things progress at a more leisurely pace.

Feryn Clyffe July Free Rally Report

July 1, 2008 | Rallies

by Erika Schaette

We just came back from the Fern Clyffe State Park Rally.  It was GREAT…

When we arrived Friday we did not see many Airstreams somewhere, just 3 of them, and when we got closer - there they were - 3 Airstreams with 4 people:  Roger and Marian Hoffmann, Roland Keim, and Conrad Jenkins.  Marilyn (formerly Groh) and new husband Dwight Burris came Saturday morning with their B-Van. And did we have a wonderful FAMILY GATHERING!!!!!

Conrad drove us around to see some of the park and surrounding counties, and Roland showed us some places where his kids live.

Get envious: Friday Dinner was:  Swedish Meatballs with Cream Sauce and Cranberry Sauce,  steamed (and peeled!) New Potatoes, and Ice-cream.  Saturday we had a “Hot Buffet” with: Fresh Bread, Grapes, Mixed Bean Salad, Hamburgers, Hotdogs with trimmings, Potato Salad, Baked Beans, and - of course: Ice-cream with Strawberry Sauce and Whipped Cream.   To make it even more special, we had both dinners in our Airstream because of the weather  and the wind, thunder,  and rain made the accompanying music.

PS: As heard from a third party, this rally included the opportunity to see how many people it took to change the flat tire on Roland’s trailer.  The activity was apparently reminiscent of the  “shade tree mechanic” session involving Bill Lockin’s fuel filter at Waterloo in April. However, all is well that ends well.
