We had a very enjoyable time at the Region 5 Rally: informative programs, worthwhile volunteer work, wonderful entertainment, fun with our unit members (including learning a new card game we can introduce to you at the Oct. installation rally). We stayed three days afterwards to take in the local festivals, shop at nearby RV surplus/salvage businesses, and visit Shipshewanna ’s famous flea market—we were too busy with rally activities to get away sooner!

Besides being the RV Capitol of the World, Elkhart County has a large Mennonite and Amish population. Here’s one of their recipes:

Apple Salad

1. Dice 8 unpeeled apples (Delicious preferred)
2. Place in weak salt water solution to keep from turning dark
3. Drain & add
• 2 sliced bananas
• 1/4 C coconut
• 1/2 C chopped celery
• 1/2 C peanuts
• 1/2 C raisins
• 1/2 C walnut pieces
4. Stir in dressing of
• 1/4 C peanut butter
• 1/4 C cream
• 1/2 C sugar (or equivalent substitute)
• 1/2 C mayonnaise.

Betty and I are home now and gearing up for the coming year. John and Roseann have done a tremendous job and will be a hard act to follow!

Regarding the installation ceremony at the October Rally in Altamont, dress for the occasion will be formal (white dress shirt/blouse, red tie/scarf, Blue Beret, dark slacks/skirt). Looking forward to the next rally and on to Region 5. See you down the road and remember to keep the sunny side up.
